Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2-inch piece ginger, peeled and sliced crosswise
  • 3 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk
  • 1 to 2 oz white rum
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of freshly ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, bring evaporated milk, cloves, cinnamon stick, and ginger to a boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Remove from the heat and let the spiced milk steep for 30 minutes. Strain and discard the solids, then let it cool to room temperature.
  3. In a blender, combine the spiced milk, sweetened condensed milk, coconut milk, rum, egg yolk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Blend until fully combined and foamy, for about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Serve the coquito chilled and dust with additional cinnamon and nutmeg if desired.
